The Alzheimer Science Advisory Board

Independent, competent and internationally renowned: The Advisory Board of Alzheimer Science is composed of scientifically working neurologists and psychiatrists who research or teach in the fields of brain stimulation, neuroplasticity, neuromodulation, neuropsychiatry, cognitive neurology and cerebrovascular diseases.

For the sake of transparency, we would like to point out that the members of this board do not receive any financial or other benefits from Alzheimer Science for their professional advice, their expert opinions and their contributions. Alzheimer Science presents the members of the Advisory Board in detail below.

Professor Ulrich Sprick

Prof. Dr. med. Dr. rer. nat. Dipl.-Psych. Ulrich Sprick has extensive expertise in the fields of psychiatry and psychotherapy as well as clinical psychology. As head physician of the outpatient services and the day clinics of the Alexius/Josef Hospital in Neuss, he and his teams ensure the care of people with mental illnesses in the Rhine district of Neuss for the outpatient and day-care sector.

As a member of the medical faculty at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU), Prof. Sprick is also involved in research, development and teaching.

His research focuses on brain research (among others, research group leader “Neuroplasticity” at the C. & O. Institute for Brain Research at Heinrich Heine University) and here in the special fields of neuroplasticity, brain stimulation, trophic factors, endogenous opiates and others.

Professor Marc Ziegenbein

Prof. Dr. med. Marc Ziegenbein is a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy and has been Medical Director and Head Physician of the Wahrendorff Clinic since 2016. After studying medicine in Hannover and at Cornell University New York, he received his training at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and at the Hannover Medical School (MHH), among other places. In addition to the care of the chronically mentally ill, his clinical-scientific focus includes scientific work in the field of psychopharmacology, affective disorders, depression and mental health in old age.

Prof. Ziegenbein’s portfolio includes over 80 international peer-reviewed publications (link follows). For scientific work, Ziegenbein and members of his research groups have received various prizes and grants/funding from the Max Planck Society and the Robert Enke Foundation, among others.

Prof. Ziegenbein is a member of numerous national and international professional societies such as the German Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology (DGPPN), the Working Group for Neuropsychopharmacology and Pharmacopsychiatry (AGNP) as well as a member of numerous committees such as the State Advisory Council for Psychiatry, Hardship Commission of the State of Lower Saxony. He is also chairman of the psychiatry committee of the state of Lower Saxony.

Professor Zülküf Önal

Prof. Dr. M. Zülküf Önal is a specialist in neurology and professor of neurology at ATILIM University, Turkey. He is one of the leading specialists in Alzheimer’s dementia as well as Parkinson’s disease and other neurophysiological disorders in Turkey and, in addition to his scientific work, runs two neurology clinics in Ankara and Istanbul. Prof Önal has published numerous studies and papers in national and international renowned journals and is a member of various societies and scientific organisations in Turkey and abroad.

Priv.-Doz. Erasmia Müller-Thies-Broussalis

Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Erasmia Müller-Thies-Broussalis, MSc, studied human medicine at the Medical Karl Franzens University in Graz and became a specialist in neurology and a specialist in radiology, specialising in neuroradiology, at the University Hospital of the Christan Doppler Clinic of Paracelsus Medical Private University in Salzburg. She then habilitated in neurology at Paracelsus Medical Private University, Salzburg. After working at the Christian Doppler Clinic for several years and conducting numerous scientific research projects, Dr Müller-Thies-Broussalis has headed the Institute for “Neuropsychiatry, Psychosomatics and Preventive Health Care” at the EMCO Private Clinic in Bad Dürrnberg near Salzburg since the end of 2022 and runs her own practice in Salzburg city.

Dipl.-Med. Ralf Bodenschatz

Dipl.-Med. Ralf Bodenschatz is a specialist in neurology and psychiatry with additional training in geriatrics and somnology. Until 2022, he founded and managed 6 medical care centres (see https://www.hygieia.net) with a total of 80 employees, including 25 doctors and psychologists in Central Saxony and Chemnitz.

He is the founder of the “Pharmacological Study Centre Chemnitz GmbH”, which has been active since 2005 (see https://sz-chemnitz.de ). which he still heads today. The study centre specialises in phase II, III and IV studies on indications such as depression and schizophrenia.

Since the beginning of 2023, Dipl.-Med. Ralf Bodenschatz has been running another practice for neurology and psychiatry in Chemnitz and has founded the “Centre for Shockwaves and Magnetotransduction Therapy”, which deals with transcranial pulse stimulation and other forward-looking techniques from regenerative medicine.

Doktor Piotr Sulik

Dr. Piotr Sulik is a medical doctor and a specialist in psychiatry. He studied medicine at the Medical University of Bialystok and completed his specialisation in psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw. Dr Sulik pioneered the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial pulsed stimulation (TPS) in Poland and is the founder of the Magwise® Medical Centre, a clinic that is a national leader in non-invasive neuromodulation therapies.

At his clinic, Dr Sulik and his team apply the latest technological advances in brain neurostimulation in addition to drug therapies and psychotherapy, focusing on severe psychiatric and neurological disorders, particularly those that are refractory to treatment.

Dr Sulik’s main areas of work and research include Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar affective disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD spectrum), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and addiction.
